100 Things to do in Philly + Events + Philadelphia Deals & more!

What better way to celebrate the New Year than with Philadelphia's traditional parade down Broad Street. I'll have to admit, though I've lived in and around Philly my entire life, this was only my 2nd year attending the event (sad to say, but I usually watched on tv) but I was determined to get my son to his first parade. The weather was milder than it had been in the past few days, so this was our perfect opportunity.

As usual, the costumes were colorful and imaginative and the performances were entertaining.  We were lucky enough to be at the University of the Arts where some  the performances were scheduled. The area was packed with full bleachers, the steps of UofA were full and there was a balcony of the adjacent building that was also full of spectators.

Another great part of our day was that the Kimmel Center was open with activities for kids and adults alike. They had face painting and balloon animals for the children, a band was playing  and the different performance venues were open to visit. There were also refreshments for sale and public indoor plumbing (can you tell I was very appreciative?). Over all it was a great day and special congrats go out to all that performed.
