"From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life" - Arthur Ashe
This is the quote at the top of Philly for Children’s MySpace page and part of the inspiration for co-founders Barry Hunsberger and Pete Shumacher. The Philly for Children All-Ages Benefit Concert was created to donate toys to Toys for Tots as well as all admission monies from the event go to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
On Sunday, December 12th, from 4 -9 pm, the Philly for Children Benefit will take place at the King of Prussia Fire Hall . This concert has brought Philly Punk bands as well as national and international touring Punk and Alternative bands together once a year since 2005. Barry and Pete felt that while there were many benefits and dinners for more affluent people to donate, the punk community didn’t have an event that they could show how much they cared or that gave them a chance to give back. For many in this community, the entrance fee to this event is sometimes all or more than they have. Every penny is donated to C.H.O.P. and the bands and many of the workers donate their time. This is not a publicly or government funded event, this is a community event raising money for others in need.
This year, the admission is only $8.00, which is lowered to $5.00 if you bring a toy. The line up for this event includes American Speedway, The Noid, The Handsome Petes, The Rumblers, Clashing Plaid and Common Enemy.
