Venezie: Wine and Masquerade

Venezie is the collective name for a large region in North East Italy. It was home to such notables as Romeo and Juliet, Casanova, and the founder of Illy Coffee. Venice is found here, whose palazzo and canals provide a dramatic backdrop for the distinctive masks and pageantry of the Venetian Carnival. Venezie also comprises the fantastic wine regions of Verona, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Friuli-Venezi Giulia. These regions are justly famous for white wines of style both melon-rich and sharp and zesty, with mineral and brine from the regions' lakes, lagoons and sea shores. Reds vary with the berry and plum of Refosco, and the dep, rich flavors of appasimento styles of Valpolicella.

We will taste 5 different wines from these world-class regions and celebrate Carnival! While actual Carnival is several months away, practice now by wearing your best mask and join host Bob Barrett, certified specialist of wine, in the installment of our Global Passport Tasting Series.
