Brian Westbrook Would Like To Fly Home To The Nest In 2011

Former Philadelphia Eagles star running back Brian Westbrook has recently gone public about his desire to return back where it all began--back with the Birds after a single season with the San Francisco 49ers.

"I talk to coach (Andy) Reid every week or so, we always talk", Westbrook said in an interview.

I would like to point out that the 49ers could technically file tampering charges on the Eagles but are unlikely to do so considering the relationship the two have. Players and coaches often speak to each other and keep in contact long after the player leaves the team, the Niners understand that.

The Eagles made the decision to cut Westbrook near the beginning of the 2010 offseason as the franchise decided to take a more youthful approach going forward. After weeks passed and B-West yet to find a place to call home, the 49ers extended a one year contract to the injury riddled star.

While there Brian was utilized as a change of pace type of back behind starting grinder Frank Gore and really started showing signs of his former self towards the tail end of the season.

In terms of reuniting Westbrook back into Eagle green, he believes that he can still help the franchise win a super bowl; "I think they have a very good group of guys on the team as far as every position, but I still think I can help this team win".

It appeared, and still does, when the front office decided to part ways with that it was done under a mutual agreement. No hard feelings were involved and as tough a decision as it may have been, both sides understood the nature of the business.

I can find reasons why bringing him back east would be a positive thing but I can also see reasons why it could be looked at as being unneeded also.

First and foremost it would allow an all-time great to retire a Philadelphia Eagle as he should. He poured every ounce of heart and determination into each game with the organization, he deserves that gratitude.

In the same breath I'm going to say that if he would make a return to the nest it most certainly won't be as a player. At this point in his career it would make more sense to return more as an assistant running backs coach behind Ted Williams.

In addition the Eagles have every reason to be optimistic about their current players LeSean McCoy and Jerome Harrison. So much so that he (Harrison) was just offered a contract prior to the CBA deadline.

McCoy would greatly benefit frBrian loves the city of Philadelphia the same way he was embraced by the Eagles fanbase and even went as far as saying it's a "special place".

During the interview he seemed very reminiscent of his days in Philly and the fans; "They have the best fans in the world, I can’t deny that, I missed it this last year. I missed it being out in San Francisco!".
