Event Description

Sasha Phyars-Burgess and Guanyu Xu are the winning artists of the Contemporary Photography Competition and Exhibition IX, and their work will be featured in a new exhibition, Contemporary Photography Exhibition IX, at Philadelphia Photo Arts Center from December 12 to February 22, 2020. Dan Leers, Curator of Photography at the Carnegie Museum of Art, selected Phyars-Burgess and Xu from 252 artists from around the globe who responded to Philadelphia Photo Art Center’s (PPAC) annual call for entries. Both artists create layered multimedia installations that explore assumptions about race, representation, and sexual normativity.
