Brian Carpenter's Ghost Train Orchestra
Composer/trumpeter/songwriter/producer Brian Carpenter was the founder and lead singer of the acclaimed American Gothic band Beat Circus. He has collaborated with Larkin Grimm, Martin Bisi, Marc Ribot, and most recently, Michael Gira on the new Swans record My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky.
Carpenter formed the 10-piece Ghost Train Orchestra in NYC after being hired as musical director for the 90th anniversary of the Regent Theater. This year the band released their debut album Hothouse Stomp, a loving tip of the cap to some of the unsung greats of Harlem and Chicago's South Side. Featuring Dennis Lichtman (King Wilkie), Petr Cancura (Joe Morris), Matt Bauder (Exploding Star Orchestra), Mazz Swift (Burnt Sugar), Curtis Hasselbring (Golem), Ron Caswell (Slavic Soul Party), Rob Garcia (Woody Allen Band).
"On Hothouse Stomp, Carpenter and his little big band don't just recreate musical museum pieces; they breathe fire and life into this amazing music. The only thing better hearing this recording would be seeing the band live" -- Frank Alkyer, Downbeat
