Event Description

Conducted by Music Director Dirk Brossé, Barber | Puccini | Tchaikovsky begins with American composer Samuel Barber's overwhelming and passionate "Adagio for Strings," followed by the invigorating and expressively pastoral "Concerto in A Minor for Oboe & Strings" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, featuring Chamber Orchestra Principal Oboist, Geoffrey Deemer. The concert continues with one of the few non-operatic works by Giacomo Puccini, "Crisantemi," an elegy composed for the Italian royal family's Duke Amadeo of Savoy, and concludes with Pyotr Tchaikovsky's beautiful and romantic "Variations on a Rococo Theme,” featuring The Philadelphia Orchestra’s Principal Cellist Hai-Ye Ni.

Additional Performances of Barber | Puccini | Tchaikovsky:
Monday 7:30 PM, Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater
Tuesday 7:30 PM, Temple Performing Arts Center (formerly The Baptist Temple at Temple University, see event website for details or call 215.204.9860)
