Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens hosts PECO Family Jams, a family-oriented program held at the Magic Gardens Museum on the second Sunday of every month between noon and 4:00 p.m. In September, visitors can join the Main Line India Association in celebrating Navratri (pronounced nuv-RA-tree). Navratri is a Hindu festival observed across India honoring the divine feminine and celebrates the goddess Durga (DOOR-gah) through dance, music, ritual, and art. Circular dances performed in the Western state of Gujarat (GOO-jr-aat) are among the most joyful festival traditions. Some of these dances are performed with decorated sticks known as dandiya (DAN-dee-yah). Textile artist and printmaker Meghan Shah will lead a hands-on workshop where participants can decorate their own pair of dandiya sticks to take home. Crafts and tours of the Magic Gardens Museum basement are included with regular admission.
