City Food Tours: Hawaiian Flavors of the Flower Show

Celebrate the flavors and flowers of Hawaii during City Food Tours’ decadent food event inspired by the beauty of the 2012 Philadelphia Flower Show, "Hawaii: Islands of Aloha.”  This event takes place in one of Philly’s best restaurants, just blocks from the PA Convention Center. Guests will enjoy world-class delights, all with fascinating connections to the splendor of Hawaii, including:

• A decadent 5-chocolate tasting featuring a rarely-tasted Hawaiian varietal. There’s so much chocolate that guests will take some home.
• An exotic 3-tea tasting, including a green tea with jasmine, an aromatic flower coveted by island residents; a small-production, black tea from the summit of Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano; and an herbal tea bursting with hibiscus, mango, and coconut.
• A delicious fish taco loaded with Mahi-Mahi, a classic Hawaiian fish popular with islanders.
• A Mai Tai cocktail, the libation that screams “aloha!”

Your warm and friendly host, Eric Matzke, has a background tailor-made for this unique event. Not only is he an owner of CFT, but he spent his childhood in Hawaii, studied botany in college, and was a member of the Philly Zoo’s award-winning Flower Show exhibit team. With Eric as your host, this is about more than just food! You’ll also enjoy:

• Tips on how every tasty morsel is made.
• Great behind-the-scenes facts about the Flower Show and flora displayed.
• A quick intro to the true language of Hawaii, called pidgin. By the end, you’ll understand the phrase, “Ono kine grindz!”
• A fun lei-making workshop. Everyone will make and bring home their own kupe’e, an authentic lei worn around the wrist.
