DESCRIPTION:This symposium is being held in conjunction with the exhib
 ition entitled Tomorrow Never Knows: The Beatles in Text and Image whi
 ch will be on view in the University of Pennsylvania Libraries' Kamin 
 Gallery located on the first floor of the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library fr
 om February 24 to August 11, 2014. The exhibition includes a range of 
 text-based materials dating from 1964 to the present that illustrate t
 he reception of the Beatles in the form of books, periodicals, ephemer
 a, commercial products, memorabilia, and recordings   The purpose of t
 he symposium is to examine the materiality of the texts and images and
  to explore the broader cultural meaning which can be derived from the
  study of books on the Beatles and to place these print artifacts in a
  larger cultural and social context.\nAmong the featured symposium par
 ticipants includes Richard Langham, former EMI sound engineer who work
 ed with The Beatles in 1963 and later at the end of their recording ca
 reer as a group in 1968/1969.   Speakers who have been invited to the

 ichard Langham worked as a sound engineer at Abbey Road and worked wit
 h The Beatles in 1963 and 1969/1969. Walter Everett (University of Mic
 higan), the leading expert on the music of The Beatles Walter Everett 
 (University of Michigan), the leading expert on the music of The Beatl
 es  Gordon Thompson (Skidmore College), who explores The Beatles in t
 he context of the British Invasion  Al Sussman (Executive Editor of Be
 atlefan Magazine), A former radio analyst for ASCAP, Al Sussman has ju
 st published an new book, 'Changin' Times: 101 Days That Shaped A Gene
 ration with Parading Press.  Donna Parsons (University of Iowa), a Pro
 fessor of English, who teaches courses on the cultural Impact of the B
 eatles  Eugene Halus (Immaculata University), a Professor of History t
 eaches a course on the politics and reception of John Lennon  Larry Ka
 ne (author, journalist and broadcaster), author of two books on The Be
 atles and one on John Lennon, Kane was among the handful of journalist
 s who accompanied the Beatles on their first tour of America. Kane has
  agreed to give the keynote address.  Jude Southerland Kessler (Noveli
 st, Blogger), Jude is the self-published author of two biographical no
 vels based on the life of John Lennon  Anthony DeCurtis (University of
  Pennsylvania), is Faculty Lecturer in the Center for Programs in Cont
 emporary Writing and a contributing editor at Rolling Stone Magazine. 
 An award winning writer, DeCurtis has published numerous articles and 
 reviews on The Beatles during the past thirty years.\nRegistration is
