SUMMARY:Richard L. James Lecture: On the Edge: Environmental Art for
 a Changing Planet
DESCRIPTION:Environmental art, by its nature, explores the far edge of
both art and the environmental movement.  As climate change becomes
a part of daily reality, environmental art is evolving to respond.  A
rtist Mary Mattingly presents the James Lecture on the emerging edge o
f environmental art.  Mattingly’s WetLandinstallation at the 2014
Fringe Festival made headlines presenting a boat-based ecosystem offer
ing a look at the future of climate change and adaptable cities.  An
interdisciplinary panel will reflect on this work in the context of th
e history of environmental art, its current state, and what the future
of the genre (and our world) may look like.  In 2015, we’re also c
elebrating the 15th anniversary of our pioneering environmental art p
rogram.\nStay after the lecture for a reception celebrating art at the
Schuylkill Center and the opening of the newest show in our gallery,Â
Inhabiting the Edge.\nThroughout 2015, the Schuylkill Center celebrat
es 50 years of connecting people and nature with a series of signature
events, a time capsule, and chances for our community to join in mark
ing this important milestone.  This winter, celebrations begin with t
he Dick James Lecture and Creature Comfort.\nFree\n\nFor more informa
