 ric homes, including Carpenters’ Hall, the fire mark’s origin in P
 hiladelphia sparked the first of many American property insurance comp
 anies and an array of lead, wood, and iron markings decorating the cit
 y homes. \nCarol Smith, who will present this information, is an inde
 pendent curator and archivist who has worked with a number of Philadel
 phia’s institutions including Carpenters' Hall and Christ Church. Fo
 r many years she has served as the archivist and historian for The Phi
 ladelphia Contributionship, America’s oldest property insurance comp
 any. She serves on the board of directors of Fireman’s Hall Museum a
 nd has specialized in the history of insurance and firefighting. She h
 as a BA in American Civilization and an MA in Material Culture from th
