DESCRIPTION:A multi-media group exhibition examining the internal cont
 radictions, hidden meaning and implicit ideologies of language begins 
 the new Rowan University Art Gallery season from September 3 - October
  8, 2013. A reception to welcome the exhibit is Thursday, September 12
  from 5:30 – 8 pm.\n \n“Dialogic,” curated by Gallery Director 
 Mary Salvante, includes pieces by Jenny Holzer, Glenn Ligon, Jaume Ple
 nsa, Lesley Dill, John Giorno, Keith Brand, Erik den Breejen, DataSpac
 eTime, Bang Geul Han, Barbara Hashimoto, Meg Hitchcock, Dawn Kramlich,
  Melanie McLain, Ben Pranger, Buy Shaver, Chris Vecchio and Sue White.
 \n \n“How language is perceived, communicated and translated is inf
 ormed by the visual qualities and symbolic power of the texts, words a
 nd poetic phrasings incorporated into the video, soundscapes, interact
 ive tech-works, sculpture, paintings and works on paper included in th
 is exhibition,” Salvante notes.\n \nThe work by Holzer, Ligon, Shav
 er and Kramlich reproduce text as aphorisms, precepts and dictums to i
 nfluence the thoughts and actions of the viewer. Giorno’s groundbrea
 king Dial-A-Poem project, Brand’s exterior soundscape, McLain’s pe
 rformative video, DataSpaceTime’s QR code mural, Han’s motion acti
 vated video and Vecchio’s public art action and interactive works fo
 cus on the physical and aural complexities of language. The sculpture,
  paintings, works on paper and installations by Dill, Plensa, Hashimot
 o, Hitchcock, den Breejen, Pranger and White deconstruct and recontext
 ualize language by reimagining the systems of communication found in a
 dvertising, books, Braille, poetry, Morse code and scripture.\n \nAdm
 ission to the gallery and the reception is free and open to the public
 . Regular gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 10 am to 5 pm (with ext
 ended hours on Wednesdays to 7 pm); and Saturday, 12 to 5 pm. For more
