SUMMARY:Clay & Conversations with Lauren Sandler
DESCRIPTION:The Clay Studio presents Clay & Conversations, an exciting
series of conversations with ceramic artists, curators, scholars, and
friends. Join for a talk with Lauren Sandler about her practice and c
urrent exhibition, The Shape We Hold, an inquiry into the ways that we
are shaped and the ways we shape. Sandler is Professor and Head of Ce
ramics at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. \nSandler’s lates
t exhibition, The Shape We Hold, is an inquiry into the ways we are sh
aped, and the ways we shape our world. Using regional materials and ob
jects, including handmade bricks, sewage pipes, and plants, she refere
nces historic clay, textile, and agricultural industries of the area.
Sandler dispels the myth of neutrality, revealing how systems and stru
ctures shape narratives and meaning, and the role of material culture
and industries as apparatus of control. The exhibition is on display i
n the Jill Bonovitz Gallery through March 29.\n\nFor more information
